My Big Concern With Samsung's Flexible Smartphone
If the rumors are correct, it looks like Samsung's long rumored flexible or foldable smartphone will hit the market place subsequently this year.
Samsung's decision to enter the market at this fourth dimension could start the competitive rush to bring more smartphones with flexible displays to market. But being starting time too means having arrows at your dorsum; any glitch could fix information technology and the technology back. Too, Apple loves to larn from the mistakes of those who accept a chance on emerging tech.
I presume Samsung Mobile volition be using the new "unbreakable" display from Samsung Display. Flexible displays from the likes of BOE and Visionex volition not exist released until at to the lowest degree 2022-2021.
However, this new Samsung flexible display does come up with some risks.
As I wrote earlier this year, Samsung's foray into flexible displays is positive, but I am concerned with its determination to use a plastic cover. Historically, plastic has non performed well given information technology is decumbent to scratches and does not deliver the clarity yous get from glass covers. Motorola constitute this out when it used a plastic cover in the Moto Z2 Force phones, which was non well received. The replacement cover was inexpensive merely information technology was prone to scratches and peeling. Samsung also used a plastic display on the Galaxy Tab Active2, reviews of which mentioned scratching and problems with optical clarity.
Samsung bringing a foldable or flexible smartphone to market using a plastic comprehend is a big risk. Drinking glass covers for flexible displays are in the works, but I don't believe they're ready for the market at this stage.
That said, a Samsung foldable smartphone will launch the new era of smartphones and will be the dominant form factor for premium smartphones by 2022-2022. Notwithstanding, BOE and Visonex are prepping stellar displays of their own, with great potential to help drive the next big innovation in smartphones. Stay tuned.
